I finally got around to fixing that gouge in the living room floor where the dog skidded into the coffee table last year. After watching a few tutorials and buying a wood filler kit that matched the oak stain, I filled the dent, sanded it smooth, and applied a few coats of polyurethane. It's not perfectly invisible if you look closely, but the surface is even again and the finish blends in well enough that it's no longer an eyesore. Definitely saves the cost of replacing whole planks.
